The Short Essays Series
The texts published in this Series were originally written by the authors as undergraduate essay submissions. They have now been revisited, fully revised, and edited to reflect their writers’ current understanding of the topics discussed. The essays present ideas and perspectives on literary works that remain relevant to contemporary societies and concerns. They also may serve as examples of academic writing that could be useful to current and future literature students.

This essay argues that the divided nature of Greek tragedy shapes not only its thematic structure but also the formation of tragic subjectivity. This is most clearly embodied in the figure of Oedipus, but it is also evident in Antigone.

Golden Fields: A Poetry Anthology
The short poems published here were all written by international students and based on their readings of The Lady of Shalott. Their poetry is an innovative, meaningful, and inspiring response to Tennyson’s famous narrative poem.
